Hello! I’m Psycho Andy, and I make art.
This website has had many revisions since it first came online in 2005. As of July 2020, I am using it as a blog, where I plan to post daily for the foreseeable future. Most updates will be some form of my artwork. That could be illustrations, digital art, or some custom action figures, things of that nature. However, I don’t want to limit myself to strictly art posts. If I get something that I think is cool, I may share that here. If I have some thoughts I need to get off my chest, I very well may type them up so you may read them.
Basically, I feel that social media has overtaken peoples’ time on the Internet to toxic levels, and I want to both create a place people can go other than Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, or Instagram, and I want to live by example.
“Be the change you want to see on the Internet,” or whatever.
Currently, I am a graphic designer for the VoiceAmerica Internet Talk Radio Network. In the past, I have worked at major corporations, small companies, educational facilities, done plenty of freelance work, and once worked a single day at a clothing store. Making art has been my favorite job, especially when I also don’t have to go out and look for work.
I was born in the early 1980s, a child of Regan-era consumerism. I grew up obsessed with cartoons like Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Ninja Turtles, and all of their corresponding merchandise and spin-off media. I love that late 80s/early 90s aesthetic vibe — You know, the kind of art you’d see on Trapper Keepers from back in those days. My teenage years were tempered with Clinton-era jocularity and jade, sarcasm, awakening environmentalism, third-wave feminism and an overabundance of irony. Or maybe we didn’t know what that word meant, thanks to Alanis Morissette.
I have a degree in Graphic Design & Visual Communication, which took me a little longer to earn, but that’s because I paid for out of my own pocket, thank you very much. I am currently debt-free by any reasonable measure, and intend to stay that way.
For a little while, my family owned and operated a comic book store. It was awesome, but it turns out I get really tired of answering “who would win in a fight” questions. I still own a lot of comic books.
I wear my hair long so that I can donate it to places that make wigs for kids going through chemotherapy. I also usually donate blood a few times a year. I think equality is important, and we should all recycle more.
I don’t play video games as much as I used to, but when I do, it’s a retro-palooza. Oldschool Mega Man, Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog — Most of the major franchises, back when they were all still made of pixel art.
My musical tastes are an eclectic mix of 1980s pop, 1990s grunge, and 21st century synthwave, with touches of non-violent hip-hop, TV show theme songs, and 70s guitar rock mixed in for good measure.
So there is a little about me. You’ll definitely learn more by reading along.
