Fugitoid – The fugitive android – Acutally pre-dates the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird wrote and drew a bunch of short Fugitoid stories that either never got published, or appeared in things with extremely limited distribution, I forget which. Eventually all of those shorts got collected as Fugitoid #1, and basically nobody cared.
A couple of years later, the character was brought back in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5, and he’s been a reocurring part of the franchise ever since, including his first action figure from 1990:
I like all the extra detailing and gribble that Playmates toys gave to the character design, but it bothers me that they made him gold instead of silver. Although, some un-named robots that kind of resemble this toy appear in the final stage of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project on the 8-bit Nintendo.
Anyways, for my figure, I thought I’d combine the two looks — The extra detailing and gribble of the Playmates design, but in the original silver color scheme of the comics. I tarnished his finish to make him look like an android that had been on the run from the authorities. I did what I could to make some of his lights look like they were glowing, including his eyes.
Fugitoid, TMNT, and all related characters and concepts are owned by Nickelodeon.
