Saurozoic Warriors wave 1 from Boss Fight Studio

For my birthday this year, I treated myself to the whole first wave of SAUROZOIC WARRIORS toys from Boss Fight Studio. This is a line of wholly-original humanoid dinosaur combatants cast and painted in bright colors like 1980s toys, but with all the sculpting and articulation of toys from the 2020s. Basically, imagine the 1988 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line, but if everyone was dinosaurs and it was made today.

There are four figures in the first wave. A second wave is available now, and a third is up for pre-order. I’m pretty sure they’re exclusive to BigBadToyStore.com, who does flat-rate $4 shipping within the United States. They’re about $30 a piece, which is a little more than the average 6-inch scale figures, but considering Boss Fight Studio is a smaller company that doesn’t have the distribution of a Hasbro or a Mattel, I think they’re totally worth it.

Anyways, let’s take a look!

First up is the Ceratopsian Guard, a Protoceratops that stands guard with two grenades, a spear, a blaster, and a knife. I love the removable clip-on gas mask as an accessory. It really gives kind of a “Storm Trooper” vibe, especially if you’ve got a few of them standing together.

Next is Marr Ossis, an absolutely insane-looking Stegosaurus with a hot pink minigun and a knife that attaches to his bicep. The spiked shoulder pad is removable, and his tail comes as a separate accessory in the box. In fact, Marr Ossis is the only figure in the wave who has a tail at all. That’s maybe unusual since tails are part of most species of dinosaur, but in addition to the bony spine plates, the spiked tail is one of the most recognizable parts of a Stegosaurus. Leaving that out would be like leaving the long neck off of a Brachiosaurus.

Speaking of Brachiosauruses, the Range Brakhion is next up. This guy’s neck is pretty huge, and he towers over the rest of the line. The knife that straps to the bandolier on his chest is the same one that comes on Marr Ossis’ arm scabbard, albeit they’re cast in slightly different shades of neon pink. He’s also got a huge assault rifle, and the motor-powered battle axe that clips onto the Brakhion’s back is very Mad Max. Radical.

Finally, Triax Skiver the Triceratops. Triceratopses were my favorite dinosaur when I was a kid, so Triax was the one I was most excited for. He shares a lot of design (and some pieces) with the Ceratopsian Guard, and that is 100% okay. Toy manufacturing is expensive, and if it makes sense to recycle some thigh and bicep pieces, I’m all for it. Triax Skiver comes with two silver versions of the grenades that come with the Ceratopsian Guard, as well as a pistol and knife that both get holstered on his hips, and a huge axe.

I love that these guys come with both ranged and melee-style weapons, so you can play with them as more of a modern day army by using the guns, or they can be a bit more “savage” with their knives and axes.

They have articulation everywhere — Ball joints at both ends of the neck allow for some real cool head tilts and swivels. They have hinge-and-swivel joints (meaning they can go up-and-down and rotate all the way around) at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, AND angles. And all of the figures have articulated jaws, which allow for some real crazy expressions.

I absolutely love these guys, and I’m definitely gonna go back and look into obtaining the other waves.
