The Lisa Frank notebook

Look at this guitar-playing dinosaur. Look at this amazing thing.

From the mohawk to the spiked collar to the fern-print strap to the bone pattern on the flying-V guitar. The not-Converse sneakers. The nose ring, the flared vest. The animals etched into the wall; the fish skeleton and snake and spider and what I believe is either a wolf or a opossum. Even the wigged out skull on the ground! It’s all just…awesome.

This was on the cover of a notebook produced by the Lisa Frank company. I believe I obtained it before classes started in either 5th or 6th grade, so somewhere in the early 1990s. It was amazing, and I eventually just threw it in the trash, because the school year was over and I wouldn’t need the notes in it any more.

I have never regretted throwing away a piece of art more. To this day, nearly 30 years later, I wish I still had this amazing dinosaur. If I could have it on a poster, I would frame it and hang it on my bedroom wall.

Sadly, this low-res photo is all I’ve been able to find of the piece. And I am sad.
